Can Tomatoes Prevent Cancer?

Okay so for several years now, I've heard a lot of good things about tomatoes. I heard they are good for your health, and I've also heard that tomatoes can also prevent cancer. However last night I was doing some research and I read somewhere in the internet where it clearly said that a recent research suggests that tomatoes cannot prevent cancer. Okay so I'm a little confused here. Some people are saying one thing while others are saying the other. So does anyone know the truth about tomatoes? Because I would like to know. And also what are the benefits from eating tomatoes? Thanks.

Can Tomatoes Prevent Cancer?
Lycopene, a compound found in tomatoes, is widely touted as a protector against cancer, particularly prostate cancer.

Studies keep proving and disproving each other, they are natural and fruits and veggies are healthy! I am a raw food vegan and feel great!
Reply:they can.
Reply:Apparently they can but the best way to get the anti cancer part working is to cook them lightly. Ketchup is good for this reason. Butby next week it will be the cauyse of some horrible disease and we will all die from it! Just eat good food and dont eat too much of any one thing and you should be ok.
Reply:LYCOPINE IN TOMATO HELPS REDUCE YOUR RISK OF SUN DAMAGE.
Reply:nothing can really prevent cancer it can only reduce the chances. As long as your cells don't grow out of control it you will be fine. Free Radicals which are carcinogens (pollutants, and cancer causing foods ex:trans fat) are roaming the body destroying the cells or messing with your cells DNA. Tomatoes and other antioxidants neutralize these free attacking unstable molecules. So the more you eat the better chance that your body can contain these bad molecules from causing harm on your body.

The study was done on lung cancer patients who took vitamin A supplements. These supplements are not naturally occurring in the body. So they found that the supplements made it worse. The did hypothesize that possibly it was because a fruit/vegetable like a tomato has so many components in it that are symbiotic, and in your body they work in unison to fight free-radicals. The vitamin A was just the vitamin alone and it was synthetic (not natural).

Eat more fruits and vegetables and you will do better than someone who does not eat any. I hope this helps explain.

From study:

Large-scale studies

A study involving nearly 30,000 participants found that there were 18% more lung cancers and 8% more deaths in smokers taking beta carotene.

Another, involving more than 18,000 people, found 28% more lung cancers and 17% more deaths in smokers and asbestos workers who took beta carotene and vitamin A supplements.
Reply:lycopine

actually they recomnmend tomato sauce

bec the amt of lycopine u need is small in tomatoes

youd need to eat a 100 a day

sauce has concetrated amounts

yer research isnt that incredible, this changes monthly
Reply:Nothing prevents cancer.
Reply:They cant prevent cancer, but they can help you in as much as eating a healthy diet, exercising, not smoking, etc reduces your risk of getting cancer.
Reply:Well, it's pretty difficult to prove. You'd need 2 parallel lives to start with, one eating tomatoes and the other not eating tomatoes and see who develops cancer and who doesn't.

Good luck and let us know!!
