I just heard on the radio that female hormone therapy can increase the risk of breast cancer?

Why hasn't this come out before? My mother died from breast cancer 11 years ago. I did my research at that time %26amp; refused using this. Doctors were still pushing it at that time. Are the drug companies THAT powerful?

Absolutely.

This basic gist is:

Estrogen causes cells to grow rapidly, and never mature. This is how cancers grow quickly.

Progesterone, on the other hand, causes cells to mature and die off.

If you balance estrogen with progesterone, you are protecting yourself from female cancers.

It has been known since synthetic HRT was introduced that it harmed women. There is NO evidence that estrogen supplementation is beneficial.

Makes you sick thinking about what Big Pharma has done to us, doesn't it??? (There's a book you should check out from your local library called "The Greatest Experiment Ever Performed on Women".)
Reply:Actually, this has been big news in the mass media since the WHI trial was stopped prematurely back in 2001-2002. Both hormone replacement and the birth control pill can increase the risk of breast cancer as well as blood clots, heart disease, and stroke. Doctors should counsel their patients on this, and balance the risk (which is relatively small in younger women) against the potential benefits of treatment. With any medication, it's always a matter of balancing potential risk versus potential benefit.
Reply:The drug companies are powerful, but many women quit using hormones after the trail of 2002 was stopped. Now they found out that quitting reduced the breast cancer (in the US only) by 7%. Most women have to decide for themselves if they are ready to take the risk or not. Women who had a total hysterectomy and suffer from severe hot flashes many times decide that life as such is too difficult and decide to take hormones knowing all the risks. This is my experience anyway.
