What is the objection to stem cell research?

This research could cure many genetic diseases, and cancer too.

WHat do people have against it.

What is the objection to stem cell research?
The main objection is the potential for destroying embryos to collect new lines of stem cells. Though now they've found stem cells can be found in fat or in amniotic fluid, neither of which should raise religious objection, though the Christian right probably will complain anyways.
Reply:It kills babys who would want to do that!!!
Reply:The objection is not to ALL stem cell research. No one objects to using adult stem cells or stems cells taken from the placenta or umbilical cord after birth.

The problem comes from using fertilized embryos as the source. In essence, these embryos have all the genetic material in them to become human beings and would grow into people if nurtured properly, whereas stem cells taken from the other sources are simply single cells.

Proponents argue that many embryos die anyway because they are the products of in vitro fertilization efforts by infertile couples trying to have babies. That is true, but using stem cells from embryos raises the distinct possibility that embryos will be "manufactured" strictly as a source of stem cells and not as future people.

Tough question, isn't it? I say we should challenge the medical profession to learn how to better acquire and use the stem cells from the non-embryo sources - no one would object to that!
Reply:The claim made by many is that it kills an unborn child given that for some, life begins at conception. However, in the case of stem cell research, the embryos that are used were ones that were not going to be implanted and given a chance to develop into a child. Instead, they are set to be thrown away, literally.
Reply:you got the answer as i can see but what is the point when many people they freeze their embryo for IVF or whatever, then they don't use them and they have to throw them away. if the embryo is a potential human being so in a case like IVF it is murder too. i think when you can save lives by the research its more helping than killing some multiplied cells.
Reply:It kills babies.

I don't think it is right to kill anyone, and then to kill a child for research?

I don't think that is a good idea, but hey, if you do, then which one of your children are you willing to kill for research?
