How might new research of DNA help us solve the problem of uncontrolled cell division(cancer)?
The main goal of current DNA research is to recognise patterns between certain genes and human traits. For example, a pattern could be recognised in people who develop cervical cancer early, and so people found with this gene could have more regular smear tests. This is more complicated than it sounds as while the human genome has been mapped, it has not been (and is difficult to) decoded to find out what individual genes do.The modification of human DNA would be required to prevent cancer, and scientifically and ethically we are a long way off being able to do this.
